Brinkley’s Broome St.

American elevated pub food with a focus on local in SoHo.

What We Had

I had a grass fed beef burger with lettuce, tomato, pickle, no bun, no cheese, and no chipotle mayo – My burger was flavorful and cooked properly (mid rare, as specified). I subbed a mixed greens salad for fries (and they have sweet potato fries) and that was well dressed and delicious.

My DH had the three cheese Mac & cheese with fontina, Parmesan, Romano – By all accounts, it was really good.

He also had a quite tasty bloody bull (bloody mary made with beef bouillon).

Decor

Adorable old school house decor with desk chairs, anatomical drawings of turtles and lots of original-looking checked tile flooring. Big generous windows to let in floods of light and fresh air as well.

Service

The server was good, but the food was really slow.

Overall Impressions

The dining room was loud but the server was very accommodating for my special-needs ass.

Rating

4 out of 5 despite the cackling table of girls pushing the decibel level past earsplitting & the slow food. Substitutions were easy, the menu had a lot of variety, and the food was good. Plus, the decor was adorable And the mascot is a bear with a monocle.

Delicatessen

Gourmet deli in SoHo featuring items from the Mac bar next door, and a wide variety of brunch beverages.

What We Had

I had the Brick Chicken – All natural chicken breast grilled under a brick with frisée, pine nuts, grapes, feta, and aged vinegar. The chicken was dry but well seasoned and the little salad was nice, but I wasn’t full.

My DH had the Signature Burger – Special blend of ground beef, crisp pork belly, charred tomato and fried egg on a brioche bun lathered with warm “cheese sauce”. Really fuckin good. Tender, juicy, rich & decadent. The cheese sauce was perfect. Good fries.

Decor

Lively current dancey music.

Open and airy decor with mirror, weathered wood and slick white.

Service

Slow bar service. our food order got messed up and the burger took forever and 3 days to come out after my chicken, but it was comped without having to ask.

Busy on a Sunday brunch day.

Overall Impressions

There were some real hits and misses.

3.5 out of 5 for a fabulous burger, and tasty but dry chicken. And, although the burger came out years after the chicken, at least they tried to make it right – can’t fault them there. The drinks were nice, that’s a plus.

Kelley and Peng

Vietnamese / noodle-focused Asian spot in SoHo.

What We Had

I had the Vietnamese Noodles – Crispy egg noodles with shrimp and vegetables in a soy-based broth. This dish was satisfying and hit the spot on a hot afternoon of wandering.

20120902-093641.jpg

My DH had the Pho Bac – Fragrant Vietnamese soup with beef, rice noodles and basil. The pho was good too. Not stellar, but certainly did the trick.

We also couldn’t resist an order of the Pork and Chive Dumplings, which were fantastic. Well seasoned, nicely fried, great sauce.

Décor

Really well curated and visually arresting decor with floods of natural light producing almost an old photograph feel.

Service

Order at the counter and they bring it to you.

Overall Impressions

A nice little place to stop down a side street in SoHo. Cash only, so be mindful of that.

3.75 out of 5 for solid food in a really cool setting.
