French bistro near Prospect Park
What We Had
I had the braised lamb shank in tomato broth with julienne vegetables – the shank was falling apart tender and the veg was ok. Chunked instead of julienne, and underdone and sickly potatoes. Nice hearty broth.
My DH had the steak frites – hangar steak with fries and salad – pretty good steak with gremolata; pretty good thin fries. Standard mustard vinaigrette on the mescalun mix salad.
Lots of red leather, dark wood, marble and small lights, with French music over the sound system.
Meh. We were one of two tables the night we visited, and the servers were deep in conversation at the bar.
Maybe a little better than expected. I’m always highly skeptical about the quality of French restaurants, especially bistros, because I’ve eaten at so many terrible ones. This wasn’t terrible.
3.25 out of 5 – a compromise. The proteins were good, but those potatoes; please pack your knives and go.
